Barney’s Story: Private Dog Training and Aggression

Private training for food aggression in Kansas City.

My husband and I contacted Beyond the Dog desperately in search of a ‘game changer.’ Our 2 ½ year old Basset Hound, Barney, had become aggressive towards us and was constantly barking at us for attention. We had already worked with another behavioral specialist, but did not get the results we had hoped for. When the specialist suggested doggie Prozac, we began to research other options.

From the very first time I spoke to Kristyn, I felt a sense of hopefulness that I had not felt for a long time. Although she determined he had resource guarding and dominance issues, I no longer had a fear of being forced to give Barney back to his rescue group. She reassured me that through pack restructure and the proper training, Barney could be helped. Without hesitation, I signed him up for in home training.

Within the first 10 minutes of our initial training session, I had already learned more about Barney’s behavioral issues than I did from all of the other experts. She was highly knowledgeable and passionate about her work and truly wanted what was best for our family. She was always prepared for our training sessions and patient with me and my thousands of questions. One of the best things about Beyond the Dog is that your training doesn’t stop when she leaves your house. On several occasions, I found myself calling her to discuss an issue that had occurred or to clarify a training technique. It didn’t matter if it was late in the evening or over a weekend, Kristyn always called back promptly and was eager to help.

Our training lasted about 3 months. At first, it was frustrating and required a ton of work, but I can honestly say that all of the extra effort and time we spent with Kristyn was well worth it. Two weeks ago, Barney graduated from his training. He is practically a whole new dog. I can’t remember the last aggressive incident we had and his excessive barking for attention is long gone. He went from an unpredictable, dominance seeking, “genetically challenged” Basset to a well mannered and obedient dog. The change in Barney was so remarkable, even our friends and neighbors were amazed!

Kristyn is certainly the ‘game changer’ we were searching for. She is not only a phenomenal trainer, but a great person, too. We cannot begin to thank Kristyn enough for all of her hard work, dedication and patience. She finally helped us achieve the results we were looking for!
