A BCBA, or Board Certified Behavior Analyst, is an individual who specializes in the science of behavior and earns a graduate degree in the field by excelling in related courses. Before earning the title of BCBA, one typically shadows another individual who already has earned the title to gain the most beneficial hands-on experience. BCBAs work with a variety of individuals including children, adults with disabilities, organizations, and, yes, even pets and pet owners! Others are involved in research within an academic setting.
BCBAs who have earned a doctoral degree and have met the standards of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board earn the “-D” designation. Individuals seeking titles including BCBA, Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT), or others providing behavior-analytic interventions are supervised by BCBA-Ds who have fulfilled additional requirements for training.
