From beach access at Brohard Paw Park for those who love to swim or enjoy the shaded areas at Bay Street Dog Park, we’ve created a list of our favorite dog parks for dogs of all sizes and ages.
Sarasota’s Dog Parks and Dog-Friendly Parks
Sarasota County has two distinctions for public areas that allow dogs. Dog parks are off-leash areas where your dog can run around, and Dog-friendly parks are areas that require owners to keep them leashed at all times. This guide is going to focus on the five off-leash dog parks in Sarasota.
Brohard Paw Park
Brohard Paw Park, located in Venice, is unique as it is the only beach in Sarasota County that allows dogs. This park provides two fenced areas where both large and small dogs can play at their own pace. Your dog can explore and swim at the beach, and after a fun day of playing, there are water fountains and showers available to help clean up for the journey home. For those who want to dine out afterward, Dockside Waterfront and Grill offers dog-friendly patios. It is less than half a mile from Brohard Paw Park.
Bay Street Park
Bay Street Park offers two separate dog-fenced areas for large and small dogs. With dog exercise equipment, drinking fountains, and plenty of shade, your dog can enjoy all this park has to offer and have plenty of opportunities for breaks. If you’re interested in exploring more of the beautiful scenery in Sarasota, you can find the Osprey Junction Trailhead. It’s an on-leash trail, just a few minutes’ drive from Bay Street Park.
Lake View Park
Lake View Park has two fenced-in areas for large and small dogs, shaded areas, and water fountains. It’s a fun place for your dog to run around with an agility course for those agility-loving pups. Lakeview Park also has picnic areas and on-leash trails where you can walk around the lake and enjoy a fun day out.
Woodmere Park
Woodmere is a larger off-leash dog park with two fenced areas for large and small dogs and water stations. Sarasota’s dog parks are often situated near scenic spots, and Woodmere Park offers similar features. It features a 2-mile walking trail along Alligator Creek, with unpaved trails with plenty of shade.
17th Street Dog Park
17th Street Dog Park has multiple shaded areas, water bowls, and an agility area. Large and small dogs have their own fenced areas. As one of the largest off-leash dog parks in the area, this park is nice for dogs who need to run off energy.
