Training Programs
Our goal is to address your cat’s aggressive behavior towards people and other pets in your home. Aggressive behaviors that we treat include but are not limited to:
Our Cat Aggression Training Program has been designed by our Co-founder and Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, Dr. Echterling-Savage, in collaboration with our behavior consultants. Our team has over 20 years of experience treating aggressive cat behaviors across six cities, during which we have helped hundreds of families live peacefully together. Our training methods use a blend of classical conditioning and positive reinforcement. Scientific research that we incorporate into our training includes a study conducted by Mills et al. (2004), in which 8000 instances of cat aggression were assessed to develop the most effective treatment for cat aggression. The success of our program is further supported by Dr. Echterling-Savage’s statement that says, “By reducing and eliminating aggression in cats, we create harmony in your home. Creating a stress-free environment for everyone is at the heart of what we do at Beyond the Dog.”
Our 16-Hour Training Program has been designed to treat aggressive cat behaviors and identify their root causes. Before training begins, we ask that you submit our “Indirect Assessment of Feline Behavior,” which provides insight into your cat’s behavioral history. Our Co-founder and Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, Dr. Echterling-Savage, will evaluate this assessment in collaboration with your behavior consultant to create a customized training program that addresses your cat’s problematic behaviors.
Our behavior consultant will then conduct private sessions with your cat throughout each week at your home. Each session is 60 minutes long, and the final session of each week will be dedicated to you as a lesson. During this lesson, you will practice the learned behaviors and obedience commands. Follow-up sessions are arranged after the training program is completed to ensure lasting positive changes in your cat’s aggressive behavior.
Most insurance companies, including Trupanion, will cover behavior modification training, including for cat aggression if it is conducted under the guidance of a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist or a Board-Certified Veterinary Behaviorist. We recommend that you contact your provider to see if they will cover Cat aggression modification training.
Our Aggressive Cat Behavior Modification Package provides private virtual sessions with Dr. Echterling-Savage, our co-founder and Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist (CAAB). Dr.Echterling-Savage is one of only a few Board Certified Behavior Analysts who work in Applied Animal Behavior and one of approximately 50 CAABs nationwide. With decades of experience, Dr. Echterling-Savage’s expertise places her at the forefront of her field, providing consultations that are invaluable in achieving lasting results in treating aggressive cat behavior.
You will meet with Dr. Echterling-Savage virtually to discuss your cat’s behavior and your training goals. Following your first consultation, Dr. Echterling-Savage will provide continued support and troubleshoot behavior scenarios to ensure ongoing success in your cat’s training. Our Aggressive Cat Behavior Modification Package is priced at $750, and it includes multiple sessions and ongoing support.
