Training Philosophy
Does your cat scratch up your couch? Does your cat play bite and nip at your legs? Or would you like to recall your cat from your backyard and take on walks on a leash? Beyond the Dog Sarasota specializes in teaching Cat Obedience and Manners through personalized training programs that meet your cat’s unique challenges. Our training programs use a proprietary blend of operant and classical conditioning with a function-based approach to behavior modification. We have over 20 years of experience training cats which has given us an extensive knowledge in how to effectively empower you in communicating with your cat and gaining a deepening understanding of their behavior.
Does your new kitten bite your fingers? Do you wish you had an instruction manual for training your kitten?
Our in-home training program will teach you everything you need to know about raising a well-behaved kitten. Kittens can be taught obedience and manners, similarly to puppies. We can help you achieve your training goals, whether attending stress-free veterinary appointments, socializing your kitten with other pets, properly handling your kitten, and more.

Our 16-hour Training Program is based on proven scientific research and our extensive hands-on experience, with over 20 years of expertise in teaching cat obedience and manners. Our training programs are led by Dr. Echterling-Savage, one of approximately 50 Certified Applied Animal Behaviorists in the country. Our training approach is both ethical and practical, with Dr. Echterling-Savage noting, “It is exciting to see a change in behavior with kittens, just like we do with puppies. Pet parents are often amazed that so much training can be done with a kitten.”
Our 16-Hour Cat Manners and Obedience Training Program includes private sessions with your dedicated behavior consultant. These sessions take place at your home and address a variety of behaviors. The behaviors covered include eliminating biting, minimizing constant meowing, and teaching your cat to walk on a leash.
Each session is one hour long and designed to maximize training effectiveness. The final session of each week is dedicated to teaching you the obedience skills and manners your cat has learned.
Dr. Echterling-Savage will meet with you through two hours of private virtual consultations to teach your cat high-level obedience and manners. This program includes virtual consultations, a personalized training plan, and ongoing support for long-term success.
Dr. Echterling-Savage is one of the few Board Certified Behavior Analysts specializing in Applied Animal Behavior and one of only about 50 Certified Applied Animal Behaviorists (CAABs) nationwide. She brings extensive knowledge to each session, backed by a doctorate in the field, published research on canine behavior modification, and 25 years of hands-on training. Dr. Echterling-Savage offers expert guidance to help your cat develop high-level obedience and manners.
During the virtual consultations, Dr. Echterling-Savage will discuss your cat’s behavioral history and your training goals, allowing her to develop a personalized training program tailored to your needs. After your initial consultation, she will troubleshoot specific behavior scenarios and offer ongoing guidance throughout your cat’s training process.
Our Cat Manners and Obedience Behavior Modification Package is priced at $750, which includes two hours of virtual consultations and support.
