Training Philosophy
Are you worried about bringing a new cat to your home? Are you struggling to stop your cat’s aggressive behavior? Beyond the Dog Tampa Bay’s training programs use science-based methods to treat all aggressive behaviors. Once you complete our Indirect Assessment of Feline Behavior, our pre-training team will design a personalized training plan, combining over 20 years of experience with the latest scientific research on treating cat aggression. One of our behavior consultants can then come directly to your home, where they’ll assess and treat your cat’s aggression by identifying and addressing the cause of your cat’s aggressive behaviors, ensuring a harmonious household.
We use proven scientific research to treat aggressive behavior. Our Co-founders, Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, Dr. Echterling-Savage and Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, Sean Savage will evaluate your submitted “Indirect Assessment of Feline Behavior” to better understand your cat’s behavioral history. Our team will design a training program that uses science-based training methods to manage aggressive behaviors. Our unique approach to behavior modification will transform your cat’s behavior and provide you with a calm household.
Training Programs
Our goal is to treat your cat’s aggressive behavior toward other pets and people in the household. Our personalized training programs will address aggressive behaviors in your home, including but not limited to the following:
At Beyond the Dog, we use the latest scientific research and over 20 years of experience to create personalized cat aggression training programs that deliver high-level outcomes. Our proprietary training methods use a combination of positive reinforcement and classical conditioning. Our team incorporates scientific research in feline behavior, such as the study conducted by Mills et al. (2004), in which 8000 instances of cat aggression were analyzed to create the most efficient cat aggression treatment. Our Co-founder, Dr. Echterling-Savage, says, “By reducing and eliminating aggression in cats, we create harmony in your home. Creating a stress-free environment for everyone is at the heart of what we do at Beyond the Dog.”
Our 12-hour Aggressive Cat Training Program runs for 4 weeks and consists of 12 hourly sessions. To begin the program, you are required to complete our “Indirect Assessment of Feline Behavior.” This questionnaire provides information on your cat’s behavior, history, and training goals. Dr. Echterling-Savage and Sean Savage will use this to develop a personalized training plan to modify your cat’s aggressive behavior.
Sean Savage will conduct private one-hour training sessions with your cat in the comfort of your home. Each session is carefully scheduled to optimize your cat’s learning. At the end of each week, you will attend a dedicated lesson where you will learn how to reinforce the behaviors your cat has been learned.
Most insurance companies, including Trupanion, will cover behavior modification training, including for cat aggression if conducted under the guidance of a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist or a Board-Certified Veterinary Behaviorist. Be sure to check with your provider to see if they will cover Cat aggression modification training.
