Dallas’ Obedience Dog Training

Training Philosophy

Our obedience training programs are specifically designed for Dallas’ dogs.

At Beyond the Dog, we offer specialized Dallas dog training programs using science-based, clinically-proven, and ethically-delivered training programs. We offer private, in-home training so that you and your dog can exceed your training goals. We can help your dog walk well-mannered on the Katy Trail, sit quietly on the patio at La La Land Kind Cafe, or recall when walking the trails at Cedar Ridge Preserve. If you need help at home, we customize the program to fit your space, whether it’s an apartment in Lower Greenville or a house in North Dallas. Each one of our Dallas dog training programs is tailored to the exact needs of your dog.

Our dog trainers travel to your Dallas home so that the training can be performed where you need it the most. We frequently service Highland Park, University Park, Preston Hollow, Lakewood, Oak Lawn, Uptown, Addison, Plano, and more! Our Dallas dog training team’s experience and knowledge are unmatched allowing us to help you achieve any dog training goal in the most efficient way possible. Led by Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist, Dr. Echterling-Savage, we utilize the latest research in animal behavior to craft our unique Dallas dog training programs. Focusing on positive reinforcement, your dog will love to learn, while learning to behave.

Training Programs

All-Inclusive Dog Obedience Training Program

$3,300
Whether you want your dog to stop jumping on guests, calmly stroll the trail at White Rock Lake, or behave at the Farmers Market of Grapevine, the All-Inclusive Program will solidify your dog’s obedience in a variety of settings.

This program teaches high-level obedience of the most common obedience commands, like sit, down, stay, place, wait, come, loose leash walking, and heel, and can be customized further based on your needs. This is our most popular program and leads to the best, comprehensive training. Common goals included in this program are:

  • Stopping your dog from pulling on leash around other people, dogs, or other animals
  • Coming when called even around those pesky distractions
  • Performing sit and down-stays in public, such as dog-friendly stores, patios, kids’ sports games
  • Greeting guests appropriately including no jumping and staying on “place”
  • Waiting at doorways to prevent any unwanted bolting
  • Preparing for the Canine Good Citizen test
  • Establishing any other obedience-related training, personalized to you and your dog’s lifestyle

With science-based training techniques, the unique structure of our All-Inclusive Program is designed to promote the highest amount of learning built for long-term success. Our combination of one-on-one sessions and lessons lead to a protocol with high amounts of treatment integrity. Treatment integrity has been a widely regarded topic of Applied Behavior Analytics for a number of years. Treatment integrity is the extent to which procedures are implemented in a manner consistent with their prescribed protocols. Dr. Echterling-Savage’s paper, “The Effects of a Multicomponent Intervention on Treatment Integrity of Counterconditioning for Aggression in Dogs” describes the effectiveness that high levels of treatment integrity have on producing behavioral change within aggression. When our trainers are teaching your dog with a high degree of consistency and accuracy, your dog acquires the target behavior faster. With the addition of weekly lessons involving you, your dog’s learning is established for long-term success within the most relevant environment. According to our resident CAAB Dr. Echterling-Savage, “The structure of our programs is designed for dogs to learn quickly, establishing new obedience behaviors that are sustained long-term in the settings that matter to our clients.”

Our All-Inclusive Training Program encompasses 20 training sessions across five intensive weeks with two follow-up sessions spanning a total of 22 training sessions over eight weeks! Over five weeks, trainers will work one-on-one with your dog for (1) hour Monday through Wednesday. The fourth session each week is dedicated to your training! Thursdays will be your lesson days, during the (1) hour lesson you will learn the obedience commands and how to reinforce them. After the program, an additional two follow-up sessions are scheduled to ensure your dogs continue success. The program is personalized to your goals with a carefully crafted training plan developed before your first day. Our pre-training team, led by Dr. Echterling-Savage, creates a customized case record for you and your dog. During the program, each session is carefully tailored for maximum efficiency. From the order in which we teach the obedience behavior to the number of successful repetitions we target before moving on, our protocols are nailed down to a science.

Executive Obedience Training Program

$1,645
Do you need help getting started with your dog’s obedience training or only want to develop a particular set of commands? From pulling in your neighborhood to not listening at Klyde Warren Park, we can design a program to meet your specific training goals. Beyond the Dog provides private, in-home training in the greater Dallas area.

In the Executive Program, you choose three to four pieces of obedience or manners for your trainer to focus on and develop in your dog. For example, you might choose a few of the following goals:

  • Leash walking in your neighborhood
  • Waiting at the door
  • Greeting guests politely
  • Staying in place during mealtime
  • Coming when called at the park

Positive reinforcement is the foundation of our training programs. It has been proven to be the most effective dog training method through research over the last 20 years. As seen in research papers, like ACV de Castro’s “Does training method matter? Evidence for the negative impact of aversive-based methods on companion dog welfare” or E.F. Hiby’s “Dog training methods: Their use, effectiveness and interaction with behavior and welfare,”, positive reinforcement has higher rates of success than aversive methods. At Beyond the Dog, we further hone our techniques from our experience with thousands of different cases, leading to the best possible results. According to our Co-Founder Sean Savage, “All of our training begins with the use of positive reinforcement. It is so much more effective and dog-friendly to teach a dog what we want before trying to eliminate problem behaviors. If they know what to do, we can easily then teach them what not to do.”

After completing the Indirect Assessment of Canine Behavior, our team creates a customized training plan to accomplish your unique dog training goals. Over three or four weeks, your trainer will work one-on-one with your dog two days a week. On the third day of the week, your trainer has a lesson with you to ensure that you know how to reinforce their behavior for long-term success.

Board and Train Dog Obedience Program

$4,305
The Board and Train Program is the perfect fit for those with travel plans, those who live outside the Dallas-Fort Worth area, or those who simply need some extra help. In a Board and Train Program with Beyond the Dog, your dog stays in the trainer’s home, giving them a comfortable home-like environment while being given unmatched training and attention.

All-around high-level obedience, listening, and manners are the focus of this Dallas training program. Beyond the Dog’s Board and Train program is the most comfortable, stress-free option for your dog while you are away. Plus, it is also the most optimal duplication of training needed for your home. Unlike a boarding facility, your dog will be learning and using skills that they will need back at home. Common behaviors we address include:

  • Counter-surfing during meal prep
  • Stealing socks from your closet
  • Staying on place during mealtimes
  • Leash walking near other dogs or people
  • Coming when called in the backyard
  • Listening in public

This unique Board and Train program ranges between 3-4 weeks in your trainer’s home, local parks, and public spaces. Our team will analyze your Indirect Assessment of Canine Behavior to design a customized training program for your dog based on your goals. Each session is nailed down to a science, targeting a particular number of successful repetitions, and each week benchmarks are hit to ensure continuous progress. The program concludes with 4.5 hours of follow-up training spread over a week with you to ensure reinforcement of the commands and behaviors.
