Training Philosophy
Is your cat struggling to use the litter box? Cats typically stop using the litter box for three main reasons: underlying medical issues, marking territory from other pets in the home, or due to fear from a startling event that happened and interrupted elimination. After training hundreds of cats to successfully use the litter box, we will create a personalized, effective litter box training plan to get your cat back on track. Our Austin cat trainers will either travel directly to your home or conduct a virtual training session with you and eliminate all stress involved with cat litter box training. Our cat training methods are backed by science and utilize the latest research in feline behavior.
Did your cat suddenly stop using the litter box one day and you have no idea why or how to get them to start using it again? Our cat training programs use behavior modification methods to help teach your cat to start using the litter box again. Our goal is to provide Austin cat owners with simple yet effective training plans to accomplish any cat training goal. After working with hundreds of cats over the years, we have designed the Indirect Assessment of Feline Behavior, a proprietary tool that will help us discover the root cause of your cat’s inappropriate house soiling. After analyzing the IAFB, our pre-training team will create a customized litter box training plan that your Austin behavior consultant will then implement. At Beyond the Dog, we aim to resolve all house soiling issues as quickly and effectively as possible.

Our proprietary litter box treatment is based on 20+ years of experience working with cats and the latest research in feline behavior. We incorporate studies such as that of Buffington et al. (2017). This research underscores the importance of considering various factors, including medical, environmental, and behavioral influences, when addressing litter box issues. By incorporating research from reputable sources, we ensure that our cat training programs are comprehensive and effective in resolving house-soiling problems for cats and their owners. According to Dr. Echterling-Savage, “Cats can be very sensitive to their environment which can make litter box training a complicated process. My job is to make a complicated process easy for pet parents by creating a fuss-free approach to a frustrating problem.”
Our 1-hour cat training sessions are available both virtually and in person in Austin. Through a combination of proven techniques and personalized strategies, we empower cat owners to effectively communicate with their pets and cultivate positive litter box behaviors. After you complete the Indirect Assessment of Feline Behavior, our pre-training team will craft a training plan and recommend a session with either Dr. Echterling Savage or one of our behavior consultants. Virtual consultations with Dr. Echterling-Savage are priced at $375 for an hour, while sessions with one of our Austin behavior consultants are available for $150 per hour virtually and $160 per hour in person.
