At Beyond the Dog, we are committed to creating positive and enriching training experiences for both dogs and their families. This is achieved by applying the latest behavioral research and proven science-based training methods.

Led by Dr. Kristyn Echterling-Savage and Sean Savage, we are dedicated to enriching the lives of every dog that we train through offering personalized programs that meet their unique needs. We are deeply passionate about delivering the highest standard of care so your dog can confidently manage any situation.

Our Story

We founded Beyond the Dog back in 2005, with our focus on providing science-based training methods and personalized training plans to support long-term success. We have now expanded our options to Board and Train Programs and Virtual Training Programs for families in Kansas City, St. Louis, and Nashville.

With over 20 years of experience and training thousands of dogs, we use this knowledge to continuously learn and apply better training methods. Our team combines our credentials, knowledge and practical experiences to ensure that your dog is given the best training experiences possible. As co-founders, I earned a PhD as a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist in 2017 and became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, specializing in Animal behavior. Our co-founder, Sean Savage, is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant, and his experiences have helped in developing the methods we use today.

We expanded our Board and Train Programs and Virtual Training Programs so that we can always bring our training to you. We are proud to offer an exclusive board and train program where your dog will stay at our home in Tampa Bay and train across the area. This helps us achieve the best results, as we are training across different distractions and settings.

We provide return and follow-up lessons for all the amazing dogs we meet, and we are deeply grateful for the support and trust we have received from all of our clients. We love to bring lasting positive change to each dog we train and their families.
