Training Philosophy
Are you not able to leave your dog home alone at your Mission Hill’s home? Is your dog driving your Park Plaza neighbors crazy with nonstop barking? Are you constantly worrying about your dog’s behavior when you’re not there with them? Our in-home dog training programs for Kansas City dogs suffering from separation anxiety can eliminate this unwanted stress in both you and your dog! After analyzing our Indirect Assessment of Canine Behavior, our pre-training team will craft a training plan customized to treat your dog’s separation anxiety. Then, one of our Kansas City behavior consultants will come directly to your home to implement treatment. We want both you and your dog to be comfortable and relaxed whenever you leave the house and our Kansas City dog training programs will help you achieve this!
Separation anxiety can be extremely stressful for both you and your dog. Our science-based dog training programs are designed to eliminate anxiety and restore peace to your household. Our team of Kansas City behavior consultants is led by one of approximately 50 Certified Applied Animal Behaviorists in the country, Dr. Echterling-Savage. After our pre-training team creates a training program, your dog trainer will use a combination of classical conditioning and positive reinforcement to create a more positive association with you being away from your pup. This is a functional approach that we created after treating cases of separation anxiety over the years. Treating your dog’s separation anxiety is a lifelong investment that can significantly increase both your and your dog’s quality of life.
Training Programs
We will address all anxious behavior your dog experiences when crated or left alone including but limited to:
In our function-based, multi-step treatment, we integrate classical counterconditioning with our exclusive methodology to address and eliminate separation anxiety in any dog. Our approach entails fostering positive associations with spending time alone, whether it be in a crate or outside of the owner’s presence. Through consistent implementation, dogs gradually acclimate to being alone, developing comfort and confidence while exhibiting reduced stress levels. Supported by research, counterconditioning has been identified as a highly effective strategy for managing separation anxiety, as demonstrated in a 2022 study by Zurlinden et al., which analyzed barking levels in kenneled dogs during periods of isolation at shelters. Our Co-Founder Sean Savage stated, “Both owners and dogs experience a diminished quality of life when a dog is experiencing separation anxiety. Our unique training protocols cause stress to fade and peace to return to the household.”
The All-Inclusive Program for Separation Anxiety encompasses 20 training sessions across 5 intensive weeks with 2 follow-up sessions spanning a total of 22 training sessions over 8 weeks! After you submit your training contract and Indirect Assessment of Canine Behavior, our pre-training team, led by Dr. Echterling-Savage, uses the information provided to craft your personalized dog training program. Then, your trainer will put your training plan into action! Your trainer will work with your dog one-on-one for three (1) hour sessions during the week. The fourth session each week is dedicated to your training! This structure is designed to produce seamless learning and long-term behavior change. After the 5-week-long training, there are 2 follow-up sessions to support your progress. Please note that our indirect behavior assessments will confirm your dog’s behavior and goals. If your dog’s training program requires additional oversight from our Animal Behavior Experts, a small additional fee may be required.
If you are a pet parent with an insurance policy covering behavior modification, our dog separation anxiety behavior modification is likely covered. Most companies with behavior policies such as Trupanion cover behavioral training when under the direction of a CAAB or a Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorist.

With decades of experience that includes the publication of research papers on canine behavior, Dr. Echterling-Savage’s expertise places her at the forefront of her field, providing consultations that are a rare and invaluable opportunity for those seeking transformative results.
Dr. Echterling-Savage will meet with you virtually to discuss your dog’s separation anxiety, where she will design a individualized training plan that meets your dog’s specific needs. Following your first meeting, Dr. Echterling-Savage will provide ongoing support and troubleshoot behavior scenarios that ensure ongoing success in your dog’s training. Our Separation Anxiety Behavior Modification Package is priced at $615, which includes multiple sessions and ongoing support.
