You may have noticed the abundance of holiday treats available across Houston, including pumpkin-flavored treats and Thanksgiving cookies at local bakeries such as Three Brothers Bakery and Common Bond Bakery. Unfortunately, many of these treats aren’t dog-friendly, containing spices that can upset a dog’s sensitive stomach or ingredients that are harmful to dogs. To help your dog enjoy some seasonal treats, we have created a stuffed Kong recipe for the holidays.
Peanut Butter and Apple Pie Stuffed Kong Recipe
Ingredients:
- ¼ to ½ of an Apple.
- 2 tablespoons of peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons of plain Greek yoghurt.
- 1 tablespoon of cream cheese
Instructions:
- You should dice the apple into small pieces
- Mix the diced apple slices, peanut butter, Greek yoghurt, and cream cheese into a bowl
- Fill a Kong with the mixture. You can add water or chicken broth in as well
- Place the remaining filling in a container and place it in the fridge
For a longer lasting treat, you can freeze the Kong for a few hours before giving it to your dog.

You Can Substitute the Apple for Other Dog-Safe Fruits and Vegetables
To provide some more variety and enrichment, you should substitute the fruits and vegetables each time you make it. You can add different broths for some extra flavor, and discover which fruits and vegetables they prefer. Safe foods include:
- Blueberries
- Mango
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
- Bananas
- Carrots
- Spinach
- Brocolli
- Green Beans
Do not use the following foods
The following foods are harmful to dogs, and during the holidays, it’s important to keep your dog away from the table and counter during mealtimes so they don’t eat any of these foods:
- Nutmeg
- Avocados
- Raisins
- Grapes
- Chocolate
